Below is our vision at to what each grade level will be exposed to throughout the winter.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade:

  • 1. Skill development in the areas of dribbling, passing, shooting, defense.
  • 2. Basic Rules of the game.
  • 3. Basic and common language associated with the game, parts of the court.
  • 4. Lead-up games and activities to foster skills learned.
  • 5. Understanding of teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, and respect.
  • 6. Possibly games within the program depending on skill level development into January.
  • 3rd and 4th Grade:

    1. Continued skill development in the areas of dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and offense.

    2. Continued elaboration on the rules of the game.

    3. Continued learning of the basic and common language used in practices and games.

    4. Lead-up games and drills to foster particular skills being taught.

    5. Better understanding of teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, and respect for all.

    6. Intra-mural games within the program and across grade level.

    7. Games played against area towns starting as early as December and going through February.

     

    5th and 6th Grade:

    1. Continued skill development in the above areas as well as recognizing different defenses and how to play them, positions, and the beginning understanding of what to do on the offensive end of the floor.

    2. Continued rules review as games are taken place.

    3. Increased knowledge of terminology associated with the game.

    4. Lead-up games and drills to foster development in specific skill areas.

    5. Clear understanding of teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials.

    6. Intra-mural games within the programs and across grade level.

    7. Games played against area towns starting in December and going through February.

    8. 6th grade participation in the Cambridge Tourney in February.
